Lean towards breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics that allow your skin to breathe and help regulate body temperature. Depending on what you’re training for, invest in a pair of supportive athletic shoes that suit your training style, whether it’s running, weightlifting, or group fitness classes.
HYDRATION
Staying hydrated during your workout is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and preventing dehydration. My thought process is if you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Bring a reusable water bottle and make sure it’s filled before heading to the gym. Some gyms like the one I train at (Healthy Living) provide water bottles and a re-fuelling station. Take advantage of those perks your gym may offer! Sip water throughout your session to replenish fluids lost through sweat.
HYGIENE KIT
Nothing wrong with getting a sweat on. We encourage it! But having good hygiene makes the gym experience more enjoyable for everyone. I recommend you pack a travel-sized toiletries bag with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant to freshen up post-workout. Consider including a dry shampoo if you prefer to skip washing your hair at the gym. Additionally, facial wipes or a small towel can be handy for removing excess sweat and refreshing your face.
LOCK IT DOWN
Nothing worse than having your valuables just “walk off” on you. Most gyms provide lockers to secure your valuables while you exercise. Bringing a gym lock ensures items like your wallet, phone, and keys are safely stored during your workout. Better to be safe than sorry!
WORKOUT ACCESSORIES
Depending on your exercise routine, consider packing specific accessories. For weightlifting, bring lifting gloves to improve grip and protect your hands. If you participate in yoga, pack a non-slip mat for a clean and comfortable surface. Resistance bands, jump ropes, and foam rollers are also some tools that can enhance your workout, and not every gym provides so consider including them in your bag.
ALL THE TUNES!
Some people find it motivating to listen to music or podcasts during their workout. I pack earphones or headphones and my phone is loaded with my favourite tracks or podcasts. Having personal entertainment options can make your workout sessions more enjoyable and help you stay focused. It does for me!
SNACKS
Having a small, nutritious snack on hand can be beneficial, especially if you have a long workout or need an energy boost. Pack a granola bar, a piece of fruit, or a protein shake to refuel and recover after your training session.
