4 WAYS TO STAY ACTIVE OUTSIDE THE GYM

STAYING ACTIVE OUTSIDE THE GYM

Hey REP team! Summer is finally here! Coach Christmas is excited for the opportunities it brings to stay active and have fun. With summer, I find many people spend less time in the gym and move more outside. I think that’s a fantastic idea! Participating in physical activities outside the gym can be equally effective and enjoyable. So, if the idea of hitting the gym during the summer doesn’t excite you, fret not! In this article, we’ll explore various ways to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle outside the gym, using simple and accessible methods that anyone can incorporate into their daily routine.

EMBRACING THE GREAT OUTDOORS
One of the best ways to stay active outside the gym is to connect with nature. I live and work in Northern Ontario and when I’m not in the gym, I enjoy exploring new trails and finding areas I can go for a hike! Take advantage of the great outdoors by participating in activities like walking, jogging, or running in your local park or neighborhood. This requires minimal equipment, it’s free, and provides a refreshing change of scenery. Also spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress levels and improve one's overall well-being.

STAYING MINDFUL OF EVERYDAY OPPORTUNITIES

Being active outside the gym doesn't always require structured exercise sessions. Sometimes it's about making small adjustments to your daily routine. Take the stairs instead of elevators, walk or bike instead of driving short distances, or take regular breaks during office hours to move around and listen to your favorite podcast. By being mindful of these opportunities, you can accumulate more physical activity throughout the day, which in turn contributes to your overall fitness goals.

UTILIZING BODYWEIGHT EXERCISES

You don't always need expensive gym equipment to work out effectively. Bodyweight exercises can be performed anywhere, anytime, and require no additional gear. Push-ups, squats, lunges, planks, and burpees are just a few examples of bodyweight exercises that engage multiple muscle groups and improve strength. These exercises can be modified to suit your fitness level and are a fantastic way to build strength, flexibility, and endurance.

JOINING COMMUNITY EVENTS OR SPORTS CLUBS

Participating in community events or joining local sports clubs is an excellent way to stay active and meet new people. From playing football to playing Pokemon Go with some friends, I’m always engaged in some event in the summer months! These activities provide a supportive and motivating environment where I can enjoy physical activity while building social connections.

Maintaining an active lifestyle doesn’t have to mean spending hours in a gym. By embracing outdoor activities, utilizing bodyweight exercises, being mindful of daily opportunities, and participating in community events, you can stay active, healthy, and improve your quality of life! Remember, the important part is to find activities that you genuinely enjoy. It will make it easier to stick to your fitness goals and lead a balanced life.
